Snowy Owl and More

We All As I have been slowly getting better, I decided on Thursday to travel down to Sachuest National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown Rhode Island hopefully to see and capture images of the snowy owl.

My son was driving, and as we were coming up the road toward the refuge, I noticed a white dot on the roof. Getting out my binoculars, I was able to identify the dot as a snowy owl.

After parking, we joined to other photographers who were watching the owl that taking pictures. The snowy remained on the roof for approximately 2 hours. Mainly turning its head. At one point, the owl opened its beak wide, and I thought it may be going to eject a pellet, but it did not do that.

On the side of the refuge, I noticed for a white-tailed deer and captured one feeding on the shrubs.

Multiple more photographers arrived and began shooting the snowy. Suddenly, the snowy took off and landed in the field. All the photographers slowly moved down along the side of the road to capture images. The snowy owl jumped from the ground onto the fence which allows for different series of images. Up the road came a van which scared the owl and it took off toward us and then returned and went further into the field where it landed in a tree. Because of the van, I lost focus on the owl but did capture an image of the owl flying toward me, but I cut off one wing.

The next part all of our adventure took place on the road near the 3rd beach. We ended up seeing a Northern Harrier flying around near the parking lot, and we followed it with the car, and I was able to get photographs of the Harrier in flight.
